Ijaza, also known as sanad, is an Islamic term that refers to a certificate or recognition given by a qualified teacher or scholar to a student who has successfully completed a course of study or mastered a particular subject.
In the context of the Quran, an ijaza is a certificate or recognition given to a student by a qualified teacher (known as a “sanad holder”) attesting that the student has memorized the Quran with correct tajweed and Quranic recitation.
The process of obtaining an ijaza usually involves the student reciting the entire Quran to the teacher. The teacher listens carefully and judges the student’s accuracy, fluency, and adherence to the rules of tajweed. If the student meets the required standard, the teacher awards the ijaza, which is considered a proof of the student’s Quranic recitation ability.
There are different types of ijazahs based on the level of mastery and the specific area of study. Here are a few common types of ijazahs:
This type of ijazah is granted to a student who has successfully memorised the entire Quran with proper Tajweed and recitation. It certifies that the student has preserved the entire Quran in their memory and can recite it accurately. Online Quran memorization classes are the best option for students.
Ijazah in quran recitation type of ijazah is given to a student who has achieved a high level of proficiency in reciting the Quran with proper Tajweed rules and melodious recitation. It certifies that the student has mastered the various recitation styles (qira’at) and can recite the Quran with correct pronunciation, Tajweed, and rhythm.
A person who wants to obtain a license in the Holy Qur’an must fulfill some conditions, as follows:
The Messenger of ALLAH , may ALLAH prayers and peace be upon him, said: “Recite the Qur’an to me.” I asked: Should I recite it to you and when it was revealed to you? He said, “I would love to hear it from someone else.”
